The Fantastic Four
The Fantastic Four is the tongue in cheek name for a quartet that was put together in 2006 to play some pop songs in a jazz style.
This group has actually managed to do at least one gig every year, which on the jazz scene is a feat in itself. The members find it quite funny and have dubbed it the annual outing.
All the members of the band are well travelled and experienced musicians and are featured in a good amount of groups and projects currently active in scotland today.
They Are:
Malcolm MacFarlane - Guitar
"Hot young guitarist" - The Guardian, "Brilliant new guitarist" - Musician Magazine, "Shrewd combination of discipline and adventure...typically cogent and concise playing" - The Herald.
John Burgess - Saxophone
Winner of the NFMS Special Concert artist Award, 1989
Mario Caribé - Bass
'(Joe Lovano & SNJO)....Lovano seemed to relish the opportunity to play with such subtlety , and his sweet , burbling obbligatos against the ensemble were beautifully apt. Robert Irvine on cello , and Mario Caribe on double bass , were also outstanding
Iain Copeland - Drums
Iain continues to work and agitate at the very frontiers of the UK music scene and has many interesting projects underway as well as an enviable back catalogue of involvement in highly innovative and original works.
The band is planning to record thier debut cd before the end of 2010, meantime you can check some video of a recent gig on the Isle Of Skye by going to this page video
Stayed tuned for more developements from the Fantastic Four!
